The EITM Institute will select participants through a competitive process. To be eligible to participate in the EITM Summer Institute, you must be currently enrolled in a graduate program, or employed as a post-doctoral research fellow or junior faculty member in Political Science or a related field. In addition, applicants should have well-defined research interests and preferably a completed dissertation prospectus. Though the Institute covers some background instruction in applied statistics, computational modeling, and formal theory, EITM is not a substitute for sustained training in these areas. Therefore, applicants should already have completed substantial coursework in at least one of these areas prior to attendance.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in math and science. We are also interested in receiving applications from individuals who are studying or working at institutions where coursework in statistical inference and formal modeling is not always offered.

Past EITM participants report high levels of satisfaction with the program. Our alumni have formed important relationships with peers and faculty at other institutions during the Institutes. These relationships have proven to be of great value to young scholars who seek to produce groundbreaking social scientific research. We invite you to become part of the EITM experience and we encourage all interested persons to apply.

The application deadline is midnight Eastern Standard Time, Thursday, February 12, 2015.

You will be asked to submit your application materials as a combined PDF (16MB max) in the online form.

A complete application consists of the following four components:

1.   Description of your EITM research proposal (5 pages). We will base admission substantially on the quality and potential of this proposal -- particularly its integration of theoretical modeling and empirical testing.

2.   Brief statement of interest and purpose in applying for the summer program (1-2 pages).

3.   Curriculum Vita with name and contact information, current location and position. If you are a student, the cv should indicate your current status in graduate school (e.g., whether you've passed exams and defended a dissertation proposal).

4.   Two letters of recommendation from faculty members familiar with your work. Letter writers will be automatically contacted for their letters.
